Even without having to make major changes such as renovations, painting or buying new furniture, you can make your home more welcoming to fall. Here are a few tips to put into practice.
Change your cushion covers for textures that match the season. Warmer textures like velvet, wool or fur (faux fur, of course!) provide an extra cosy feel. Place a few blankets loosely over the sofa or in baskets positioned strategically near the sofa. But don’t limit yourself to the living room, also add decorative pillows and fluffy blankets in the bedroom to make it really cosy.
Smell is a huge stimulus for memories. Use it to your advantage to evoke the feeling of autumn in your home. Scents like cinnamon, pumpkin, fresh apples or dried leaves immediately transport you to the warm days and nights of autumn.
Replace your usual colour scheme with the warmer tones of autumn. Colours such as amber, reddish red, bronze, gold, deep green and even mauve mirror the colours outside. Use them to create a sense of cosiness and comfort indoors.
In addition to using colours to mimic the tones of autumn, you can add seasonal flowers in the kitchen or on the dining table. Use and abuse dried sprigs and wildflowers. Distribute them throughout the house, on a sideboard in the living room or even on the bedside table in the bedroom.
